Gideon's Army Mobilizes for North Nashville

Updated: Mar 5, 2020

The mission of Gideon's Army is interrupting violence in North Nashville, but when disaster strikes they are there to do so much more.

When the storm hit in the middle of the night on March 3rd, Gideon's Army team members were already out with boots on the ground to help their community.

Our trauma response team, violence interrupters, and community outreach team were out immediately after the storm hit assessing the needs of the community and doing whatever they could to assist.

By 8 AM the next morning we were organizing to accept donations of goods and urgent needs at three locations across North Nashville. Donations were accepted at Kingdom Cafe', Lee Chapel, and the Northwest YMCA.

Over 3000 individuals and numerous organizations donated food, supplies, paper goods, clothing, shoes, hygiene products and more. We eventually moved our primary base for donations and volunteers to the heart of North Nashville at McGruder Family Resource Center where we continued to have a steady stream of volunteers and donations come through the door nonstop. Over 1200 people have signed up to volunteer as of tonight.

The Gideon's Army Facebook page has been a central location for resources, information, and regular updates to keep the community informed. The people of Nashville came together in a major way to support North Nashville. We are so proud, grateful and inspired. In the coming days we will continue to post information to our social media channels, but this website will be the central location for the long term disaster response and rebuilding efforts of Gideon's Army.

Thank you to everyone who has given and volunteer thus far. #WeAllWeGot
